The Australian Bonsai Gallery is offering a number of Bonsai Workshops for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.
All of our Bonsai Workshops are held in The Australian Bonsai Gallery among our collection developed over the last 48 years.
All workshops are 'one-on-one' private tuition sessions.
Our Bonsai Workshops are held over one or more days, from 8:30am till 4:00pm, at a cost of $250 per day.
All workshops can also be scheduled by appointment.

Intended Audience
The Beginners Bonsai Workshops are designed as 'one-on-one' private tuition sessions and are suitable for anyone interested in 'kick-starting' their journey into the world of Bonsai.
Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
- identify plants suitable for bonsai
- recognise the defined styles of bonsai
- select appropriate containers, soil and fertiliser for
different bonsai tree species
- basics of prune and wire a plant to create a bonsai
- repot a bonsai proficiently (seasonal)
- start to maintain and cultivate a successful bonsai.

Content
This workshop covers the following topics:
- history of bonsai
- Japanese traditional bonsai
- suitable specimens for bonsai, both Native & Exotic
- various bonsai styles
- pots and containers: textures, shapes, sizes, colours
- bonsai soils.
- required equipment: tools for potting, wiring and
pruning.
- wiring techniques
- pruning techniques
- re-potting (seasonal)
- maintenance: light, water, fertiliser
- pests and diseases in bonsai.

Delivery style
Delivered in an interactive workshop environment..
Bonsai trees, equipment, soil components and tools are displayed and various forms of bonsai are presented within the bonsai gallery.

- Wire and bonsai tools are provided.
- Students are to provide a suitable tree to work on.*

The Intermediate Bonsai Workshops are designed as 'one-on-one' private tuition sessions and are suitable for anyone interested in taking their basic knowledge to the next level in their journey through the world of Bonsai.
Workshop Outline
Unlike the beginners workshop, this day will be much less formal. Students will focus more on their specific requirements.
We will:
- Re-visit some of the content of the Beginners Workshop.
- Improve, and build on your basic skill-set.
- Focus on the aspects of bonsai cultivation of your choice.
Intended Audience
Our Advanced Bonsai Workshops are designed as 'one-on-one' private tuition sessions delivered specifically to focus on your bonsai special needs. They are focused on the experienced individual wishing to broaden their skills and knowledge.
For example the sessions may focus on:
- Japanese Black, red, or White pine refinement,
- a restyling of an established bonsai,
- rehabilitation of an old bonsai,
- refinement work on any species
- a re-style and re-potting session
..... or anything you wish to focus on.
